The Rebirth:

General Motors Co GM has recently restarted the sale of the Chevrolet Blazer EV following a temporary halt due to software glitches.

Recent Developments:

What Happened: GM had paused sales of the 2024 Chevrolet Blazers EV in December due to software complications. Reports now indicate that the company has rectified the issues and is back in business, as per Reuters.

GM has additionally chosen to slash the price of the Blazer by a substantial $5,600 to $6,500 for various trims. When coupled with a $7,500 federal EV tax credit, eligible customers can now purchase the vehicle for as low as $42,695, significantly less than the original $56,715 for the base model, as stated in the report.

Significance:

Why It Matters: During GM’s fourth-quarter earnings presentation at the end of January, GM’s CEO, Mary Barra, acknowledged the stop-sale from December and assured that the company’s software and services squad is addressing any instability issues faced by users, particularly problems with screens and charging.

Barra reassured users saying, “We disappointed these customers, and we know it. We are determined to get the software right, and we will.”

In 2021, GM delivered a total of 2.6 million vehicles in the U.S., indicating a year-over-year surge of 14%.
