Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk revealed on Saturday that the company is focused on implementing enhancements to the Cybertruck, aimed at further decreasing its turning radius.
Improved Maneuverability: Tesla currently boasts a superior turning radius for the Cybertruck compared to most sedans, with the vehicle featuring a curb-to-curb turning radius of 43.5 ft, as per its manual.
In contrast, the turning radius of a Ford F-150 Lightning Pro, as noted by the automotive magazine Car and Driver, stands at 47.8 feet, underscoring a substantial difference of over four feet between the Cybertruck’s turning radius and its only contender from rival automaker Ford Motor Co F.
In response to a Tesla enthusiast highlighting this discrepancy, Musk affirmed, “We have further improvements in the works to tighten the turning circle significantly.”
Significance: Tesla commenced deliveries of its stainless steel Cybertruck to customers in late November. Priced at $79,990, it stands in contrast to the Ford Lightning, which starts at a more modest $49,995 for its base model. The entry-level rear-wheel-drive variant of the Cybertruck, starting at $57,390, is slated for availability commencing 2025.
Moreover, while the Lightning is eligible for an EV tax credit of $7,500, the Cybertruck does not currently qualify. Nonetheless, Tesla anticipates the vehicle meeting the criteria for tax credits later in 2024.
