WASHINGTON, July 24, 2024 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — The United States Mint (Mint) will introduce the 2024 American Innovation $1 Coin Proof Set to eager collectors on July 30 at noon EDT. Priced at $24.00, this collection celebrates the innovative spirit of America through a series of distinctive coin designs.
The American Innovation® $1 Coin Program
The American Innovation® $1 Coin Program, a long-term initiative, showcases unique reverse designs that pay tribute to America’s inventiveness and honor breakthroughs from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories. The 2024 edition spotlights remarkable innovations from Illinois, Alabama, Maine, and Missouri.
The Craftsmanship
Each striking proof coin comprises a blend of metals – six percent zinc, three-point five percent manganese, two percent nickel, and the rest copper. The meticulous designs featured on the coins are the work of the Mint’s talented Medallic Artists and Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) Designers.
Design Highlights
One of the standout designs showcases Illinois’ history with a large steel plow blade against the backdrop of prairie grass. Alabama’s contribution is symbolized by the power of the Saturn V rocket lifting off. Maine’s coin pays tribute to Dr. Bernard Lown and his defibrillator, while Missouri’s coin honors George Washington Carver in his laboratory.
The American Innovation $1 Coin Features
The coins’ obverse side portrays the Statue of Liberty in profile, with inscriptions embodying American values. Each coin includes a privy mark representing industry and innovation, a changing feature reflecting the program’s annual evolution. The 2024 coins were produced at the Mint’s San Francisco facility, with a certificate of authenticity accompanying each set.
Availability and Purchasing Information
The American Innovation $1 Coin Proof Sets can be purchased from various Mint sales centers, online, or through the Authorized Bulk Purchase Program (ABPP). Collectors can also subscribe to receive automatic shipments as part of the Subscription Program.
