Dearborn-based Ford Motor Co. F sold 51,745 Mustang Mach-E SUVs in the U.S. last year, trumping the sales numbers of its gas-powered counterpart Mustang for the first time since the EV’s sales commenced in late 2020.

What Happened: In the last quarter of 2020, Ford sold three units of the electric Mach-E and officially commenced the sales of the EV. In the whole year, the company had sold 61,090 units of the Mustang.

In every year since Mach-E sales rose while Mustang sales dipped until last year when Mach-E sales trumped the sales of its gas counterpart under the same nameplate.

Year Mustang Mach-E Sales Mustang Sales
2020 3 61,090
2021 27,140 52,414
2022 39,458 47,566
2023 40,771 48,605
2024 51,745 44,003

Why It Matters: Ford’s Mach-E is one of Ford’s three EVs sold in the U.S. besides the F-150 Lightning pickup truck and the E-transit electric van.

Last year, Ford sold 97,865 electric vehicles, accounting for merely 4.7% of its overall vehicle sales in the year.

A majority of Ford’s sales include combustion engine vehicles and the company has a long lineup of gas-powered vehicles besides its best-selling F-series truck or its Explorer SUV.
